May heshe with the best slogan (meme) carry the day!
In 1786, the great Thomas Jefferson said to John Jay, “Our liberty cannot be guarded but by the freedom of the press, nor that be limited without danger of losing it”. Yes, this is true enough, but it’s moot when the average citizen believes they are free when in actuality they’re not. Because they think they’re free, they also think the press and media are free.
Of course, people are free to do exactly as they’re told by the State, and the press and major media outlets are free to print and air exactly what they’re allowed to by their corporate fathers. If executive editors and producers don’t tow the corporate line, they don’t keep their jobs or they don’t get them in the first place.
It’s interesting to look at the corollary to Jefferson’s proclamation: The [modern] State can not control the masses without controlling the mass media.
Imagine how different things would be if your favorite corporate news outlet blasted out headline stories like: “Half Million Iraqi Children Died Under Eight Years of Clinton Sanctions!”; “Official Story of 9-11 Violates Laws of Physics, Chemistry, and Thermodynamics!”; “WTC Leaseholder, Silverstein, Admits to Authorizing Demolition of WTC Building 7 on 9-11 — Explosives Planted Weeks in Advance!”; “Molten Steel in Sub-basement of WTC Towers Caused by Incendiary Devices — Proves Towers Demolished by Explosives!”; “Federal Judge Rules Electronic Votes Property of Corporation!”; “Numerous Districts in Ohio Reported More Votes Cast than Registered Voters!”; “Illegal Napalm used to Subdue Restive Falluja — City Destroyed!”.
As long as the mass media does the bidding of the State by manipulating ‘news’ and public ‘opinion’, the State is able to engage with impunity in treason, criminal racketeering, war crimes, and crimes against humanity, and the People will never again know truth, liberty, justice, or peace.
Free-thinking people everywhere want to know, “What can i do?”. Besides using your imagination, you can help by joining the PAN coalition of people and organizations declaring Friday, September 23, Global Observance: Media Awareness Day (GO: MAD). GO: MAD will take place the fourth Friday of September annually until the media is unfettered by the corporate fathers and the State.
Here are some things you can do:
- tell your friends and family about GO: MAD;
- pass this missive along to your friends and affiliated organizations;
- write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper;
- if you’re a teacher, devise a lesson to teach your students about the true nature of today’s mass media;
- call the executive editor of your local newspaper and schedule a meeting with you and your colleagues to remind them of their obligation to you, the ‘consumer’ of their product;
- bring a law suit against your favorite media mogul for complicity in crimes against humanity;
- stage a “media circus” at your favorite local media outlet… use your imagination!
If you'd like to share your plans for GO: MAD, please feel free to drop me an e-mail. Also, please send me an e-mail if you or your affiliated organization would like to join the PAN coalition participating in the Global Observance of Media Awareness Day.
For those of you in the Bay Area, i'm in the process of setting up a meeting with Susan Goldberg, the executive editor of the San Jose Mercury News (SJMN). If that meeting does not take place, i'll be exploring throwing a "media circus" at the offices of the SJMN and would like to hear from you with your ideas and offers to participate.
Forget the Alamo! Remember the Constitution?! We the People demand the return of the Constitution. Because the vile and pernicious State continues to show nothing but contempt for the will of the People, we must make it clear to the media that we will not tolerate more business as usual.
